The 2022 e-bike collection is available in our online bike shop. For years, the use of e-bikes has grown steadily. But since COVID, e-bikes have become more popular than ever. In the Netherlands, electric city bikes were even sold more than ‘ordinary’ city bikes in 2021. At Mantel, we have been specialising in electric bikes for years, and with the 2022 e-bike collection we see some trends emerging. In this blog we introduce you to our most promising e-bikes from brands such as Cannondale, Gazelle, Pegasus, Sparta, Batavus, Koga, Cortina, Trek, Cube and Flyer.

E-bike trends 2022

Some of the trends we saw in the 2021 collection carried over into the 2022 e-bike collection. One of these trends is “integration”. Integration can be interpreted in different ways. The first is that the battery and the cables are often integrated into the frame. The mid-drive motor is also becoming increasingly integrated into the e-bike. Manufacturers are paying more and more attention to the way they position the motor, because it improves stability in the frame and with that, the riding characteristics.

In addition, connectivity with external devices is becoming increasingly popular. Many e-bike displays already have a USB port to charge your phone with. Manufacturers are even offering apps that allow you to connect your e-bike to your phone. These give you a variety of options. For example, Shimano’s E-Tube app not only allows you to update the firmware of your e-bike, but also customise the layout of your display and even change the power output of the motor in certain assist levels.

Another e-bike trend is e-bikes with a long range. This development runs parallel to the developments in the field of batteries. Thanks to progressive technology, the capacity of e-bike batteries is constantly increasing. As a result, it is now possible to travel distances of over 80 kilometres on a single charge.

Bosch e-Bike Smart System 3 (BES3)

The above trends come together in perhaps the most significant innovation in the world of e-bikes: the Bosch e-Bike Smart System 3 (BES3). This system takes cycling to a whole new level and consists of a number of new components. Firstly, batteries are becoming more and more powerful; it is now even possible to get a bike fitted with a 750 Wh battery. But also the motor has become stronger: the new Performance CX motor has a torque of up to 85 Nm. Another useful component is the Bosch e-Bike Flow app. An app with useful functions, such as anti-theft protection and the ability to link to external apps. Finally, the system comes with the Kiox 300 display and LED Remote control. This display is easier to read and contains more functions. The display comes with the LED Remote control, on which all the system’s buttons are located. The buttons are illuminated by LEDs, making them easier to read in the dark.

Nexus 5 speed hub gear

Another notable advancement on 2022 models is the Nexus 5 gear hub. This is the first hub specifically designed to handle the torque of increasingly powerful e-bike motors. The Nexus 5 hub has a wider gear range than the familiar Nexus 7 hub. This development shows that having more gears does not always equal better performance!

Gazelle e-bikes 2022

Ultimate C8+ HMB

The Dutch brand Gazelle is known for its comfortable and refined bikes. The Ultimate C8+ HMB is one of Gazelle’s best e-bikes, so it is no wonder this model is an absolute customer favourite. As its appearance suggests, this bike is a super comfortable and sporty ride. Thanks to a favourable centre of gravity and a rigid frame, this electric bike is wonderfully stable. A suspension fork, wide tyres and leather grips ensure that your rides will be comfortable. The Gazelle Ultimate C8+ HMB is once again one of the most comfortable and sporty e-bikes and therefore certainly deserves its spot among the e-bikes of the 2022 collection. The bike is available with either a traditional bike chain or a belt drive.

Grenoble C8 HMB Connect

The Grenoble C8 HMB is even more comfort-oriented than the Ultimate C8+. The Gazelle Grenoble is equipped with both front fork and seat post suspension. It also gives you a more upright sitting position than on the Ultimate C8+, assuring a comfortable ride. In addition, as with the Gazelle Ultimate, the Bosch mid-drive motor ensures excellent performance and a good centre of gravity. When it comes to comfortable cycling the Gazelle Grenoble C8 HMB provides that little bit extra.

The Grenoble C8 HMB can be easily connected with the Connect app (Dutch website). This app gives you insight into your bike data, such as battery percentage, range, distance travelled and the location of your bike. Has your e-bike beenstolen? Then you can easily retrieve your bike using the GPS tracking function within the app.

Orange C8 HMB Connect

The Gazelle Orange C8 HMB is Gazelle’s most relaxed electric city bike. In addition to its high level of comfort, the Orange is known for its quiet and stable handling. Therefore, it is ideally suited for casual rides to town or through the countryside.

The Grenoble C8 HMB Connect is also an e-bike with GPS protection. Your bike is always connected to the Gazelle Connect app (Dutch website).

Pegasus e-bikes 2022

Siena E7F Plus

Pegasus has been a major player on the e-bike market for years. The brand knows how to produce high-quality e-bikes for competitive prices. Safety, comfort and design are key elements of pegasus e-bikes. The Siena series are no different. The Siena E7F has a suspended front fork and an adjustable stem. Adventure Neo 2 EQ & 3 EQ

The Adventure Neo is a comfortable electric bike with an attractive price tag and will therefore appeal to many people. The Adventure Neo is perfect for touring because of its high level of comfort, the Bosch mid-drive motor and the 9 speed derailleur gear.

Mavaro Neo 5

The Mavaro Neo 5 is very comfortable. This is partly thanks to its low entry, smooth HeadShock suspension, but also the very robust frame makes for a pleasant ride. According to Cannondale, this e-bike has a 125 kilometre range. However, we estimate a range of around 100 kilometres when the powerful assistance modes are used regularly. In other words, this electric bike from Cannondale is perfectly suited to long rides!

Canvas Neo 2 & Tesoro Neo X 3

The Canvas Neo 2 and the Tesoro Neo X 3 e-bikes are both innovative and sporty. The Canvas Neo 2 has fast tyres and a rigid carbon fork, which will appeal especially to the sporty commuter. The Tesoro Neo X 3 has wide tyres with studded tread and suspension, making it easy to ride over sand and gravel paths. This Cannondale e-bike will also be popular with the mountain bikers among us. With both e-bikes, you can certainly arrive at work in style!

The Trek District+ 6 is therefore definitely a worthy competitor to the Gazelle Ultimate C8+ HMB, when it comes to being sport and comfortable.

Trek Verve+ 1

Trek also offers electric bikes that are great value for money, like the Trek Verve+ 1. This strong, comfortable e-bike makesmakes each ride more enjoyable and makes you want to keep riding for longer. The reliable Bosch technology knows how to take you across flat land without a hitch, whether you are on your way to the shops or on a tour through the countryside. Basically, this bike has the same features as the District+ 6, but the Verve+ 1 is not as technologically advanced. It’s also a little less sophisticated. However, the attractive price makes the Trek Verve+ 1 very good value for money.

Cube e-bikes 2022

Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 625

Cube is known for its sporty bikes at an affordable price. The Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 625 certainly lives up to that reputation. You’d be hard-pressed to find another bike with an 85Nm Bosch Performance CX mid-drive motor and a 625Wh PowerTube battery. In addition, the e-bike has a sporty and stable frame that gives you a slightly active sitting position. The Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 625 has a 10 speed derailleur drivetrain, making it perfectly suitable for commuting or touring.

Touring Hybrid Pro 500

The Touring Hybrid Pro 500 is also suitable for touring, but excels at shorter rides. A little less powerful Bosch 65Nm mid-drive motor and a 500Wh Powertube battery make long-distance riding just a tad more difficult than with the Kathmandu Pro 625. Nevertheless, with this e-bike no hill is too high. Where the Kathmandu is just a bit sportier and more powerful, the Touring is more subtle.
